World Sickle Cell Day

Published on 19 June 2025 at 12:08

Today is World Sickle Cell Day, its a moment to stand with and celebrate the strength of all sickle cell warriors around the world.

It’s also a time to raise awareness about sickle cell disorder, to learn, to ask questions, and to reflect on how we can all contribute to a more supportive and informed society.

Living with sickle cell disorder often means navigating daily challenges; physical, emotional, and social. That’s why it’s so important that workplaces, schools, communities, and relationships all become spaces of understanding, care, and dignity for those affected.

One key part of awareness is understanding your own genotype. Knowing this can help individuals make informed and responsible choices, especially when planning families. While the conversation can be sensitive, it’s rooted in care and the desire to prevent pain for future generations.

Ultimately, today is about education, empathy, and action. Whether you're a warrior, a friend, a partner, a colleague, or someone just learning, your role matters. Learn more, speak up, and support those living with sickle cell in ways that truly make a difference.
