One hill I’ll always stand on is this: your home is not the place for a perfect first date!
No, the amount of money you spend doesn’t automatically make a date great. But the intentionality behind it? That matters a lot. When you ask someone out, the goal is to spend time together and actually get to know each other. And the best way to do that is usually outside of each other’s personal spaces, in a comfortable and safe environment.
That might mean having a conversation beforehand to figure out what they like. A simple picnic on a sunny day, a free art exhibition, a museum tour, or a casual coffee date, none of these are expensive, but they create the right atmosphere to talk, connect, and vibe.
A first date doesn’t have to be at a fancy restaurant (though it’s not a bad idea either). What truly matters is the person, not how much they can spend.
Also, inviting someone to your house as a first date idea? That can be risky and, honestly, a little careless. It’s safer and more respectful to meet in public.
So, let’s normalize being thoughtful and creative with first dates, not just convenient.
